SUPPORT - Supporting and Strengthening of Logistics Networks in and around the Rotterdam Port, is a three-year (Jan 2010 - Dec 2012) research project coordinated by Almende. In SUPPORT, we provide a concrete, real life setting, proof of concept on continuous planning in the logistics network. The proposed solution would be scalable to (much of) the logistics network and would lead to substantial improvements.MembersThe project members within SUPPORT bring all the necessary expertise together throughout the knowledge chain: from fundamental research (TU Delft, CWI) and applied research (Almende) to technological innovators (DEAL Services) and domain partners (APM Terminals, De Rijke, Peeman, Hebra).

Agentschap NL grants one-year extension

The SUPPORT project has been granted a one-year extension, and will now run until December 2013.

Reason for the extension is the fact that development of the Multi-Agent System took longer than expected. The project leaders considered it best to delay the practical tests until the software was fully functional, and Agentschap NL agreed.

Other than the short delay, no problems have been encountered within the project. Research partners CWI and TU Delft even started some additional research conserning dynamic route planning and intelligent stacking of containers on the terminal. Development of the Multi-Agent System is progressing smoothly.

During a SUPPORT group meeting in the Wereldmuseum on 6 January 2011, the project partners were given a sneak preview of the DEAL Platform. Research partners DEAL Services and Almende demonstrated a generic version of the platform. For the purpose of the SUPPORT project, the DEAL Platform will be tailored to the specific needs of the technology partners.

DEAL provides the software that will connect all different parties in the logistical network: the transport companies and APM terminals. The DEAL Platform will facilitate coordination and communication between the various parties.

Over the next few months, DEAL will work hard on connecting the different IT-systems of the various partners. The first real-life tests are planned for this May.
